Petsitters sentenced for abusing dogs left in their care
Paige Williams, 26, and her partner Bradley Regan Archer, 27, have been sentenced following the discovery of extensive abuse towards two German Shorthaired Pointers while their owners were away. The couple, who looked after the family’s pets in Balsall Common, were caught on security cameras shouting at, roughly handling, and physically mistreating the dogs, Ayrton, a 13-month-old, and Frieda, a three-year-old. The family submitted 51 video clips as evidence to the RSPCA, prompting a formal investigation. Both Williams and Archer pleaded guilty to failing to meet the welfare needs of the animals under the Animal Welfare Act. Williams received a 12-month community order with 140 hours of unpaid work, and Archer received a similar order with 40 hours of unpaid work. Both were banned from keeping animals for seven years, effectively preventing Williams from operating her commercial petsitting business. RSPCA Inspector Ben Jones described the abuse as a betrayal of the family’s trust, with Ayrton experiencing severe distress, including being locked in a crate and roughly yanked with a slip lead. Court statements from a vet confirmed the dogs suffered anxiety and stress, though they have since recovered physically. The case highlights the serious responsibilities involved in entrusting pets to carers and the legal consequences of neglect and abuse.
