Couple’s Heartbreak After Dog Goes Missing in Care of Unlicensed Boarders

A couple from Halewood, Lynn and Terry Maher, are heartbroken after their beloved German Shepherd, Shadow, went missing while under the care of a couple running an unlicensed dog boarding service. The Dempseys, who operated the service from their home in Fazakerley, were later found to be illegal dog boarders and were banned from owning or boarding dogs. The Mahers had left Shadow in their care while they went on a three-week holiday to America, thinking it would be safer and more comfortable for their dog to stay in a home environment instead of a kennel. Upon returning, they were told by Mrs. Dempsey that Shadow had run off during a walk, but despite extensive search efforts—including thermal drones, a £5,000 reward, and community assistance—Shadow has not been found. The Mahers are devastated by the uncertainty surrounding their dog’s fate, fearing he may have passed away while in the Dempseys’ care. The Liverpool City Council launched an investigation into the Dempseys after receiving reports that another dog had died while under their care. The Mahers have not given up hope and continue searching for any sign of their lost pet.
