Philippine Ports Authority shares guidelines for travelling with pets and plants during Holy Week 2026
As the Holy Week 2026 travel period approaches, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reminds passengers who plan to bring pets or plants on sea trips to secure the necessary permits and follow proper guidelines. Fur parents are required to coordinate with their local Bureau of Animal Industry – National Veterinary Quarantine Services (NVQSD) or register online to obtain a seven-day shipping permit. A veterinary health certificate detailing the pet’s vaccination history is also needed to ensure safe travel. Meanwhile, plant enthusiasts should request a shipping permit from the local Bureau of Plant Industry office. The BPI’s National Plant Quarantine Services Division can issue a Clearance for Domestic Transport (CDT), confirming that the plants do not carry regulated pests. Transport of certain plants, like bananas and abaca under the Musa genus, is limited due to potential disease risks. Plant quarantine officers may require additional phytosanitary measures before transport is allowed. The PPA also reminded the public that prohibited items such as flammable substances, deadly weapons, and liquor are not allowed inside ports. Observing these rules will help ensure a smooth, safe, and organized travel experience for everyone during the Holy Week exodus.
