Police Investigate Illegal Animal Traps in Denbighshire Forest

North Wales Police have launched an investigation after undercover footage revealed individuals setting illegal snares in Denbighshire’s Ruabon Moor forest. The footage, obtained by the Green Britain Foundation, shows people placing traps near a ‘stink pit’—a location where animal carcasses are used to attract wildlife. The snares, which have been banned in Wales and Scotland, are being investigated for their cruel and indiscriminate nature. They are often used to kill wildlife to support the commercial shooting of birds for sport. The footage, which includes images of red-legged partridges at the stink pit, was recorded over several months in 2023. The Welsh government implemented a ban on snares and glue traps in October 2023. The Green Britain Foundation’s founder, Dale Vince, has called for the UK government to extend the ban to England. This investigation comes amid growing concerns about animal cruelty and wildlife protection.
