Over 250 Poodle-Cross Dogs Rescued from Overcrowded Home and Doing Well, RSPCA Reports

Over 250 poodle-cross dogs were rescued in January from an overcrowded home in the UK, where they were found crammed into a living room in appalling conditions. Despite their initial state, the dogs are reportedly doing ‘really well’ after being taken in by animal welfare groups, including the RSPCA and Dogs Trust. Many of the dogs had matted coats and required medical treatment. Some were underweight and had sore ears and eyes, while others were completely unfamiliar with basic experiences like walking on a lead. One dog, Boone, was adopted by Dermot Murphy, a former RSPCA inspectorate commissioner, and has made remarkable progress since being adopted. The RSPCA linked the case to the challenges of mental health issues, the cost-of-living crisis, and poor breeding practices. The charity opted not to pursue legal action, citing the vulnerability of the owners. The number of multi-animal incidents, particularly involving popular ‘doodle’ breeds like the poodle-cross, has increased significantly in recent years. The RSPCA continues to respond to these cases, which have surged by 70% since 2021.
